Prior to 2007, Renault sales had taken a slight dip against the likes of Ford and Volkswagen so it was important that they make a statement with the new Laguna. And they certainly did. There were some major improvements to looks, interior quality and performance. It looked much better than its predecessor both on the inside and out. The materials in the cabin are more robust, and they packed in plenty of comfort and safety equipment as standard. It can seat five and there’s a large boot for their luggage. They made it a much better car to drive. The handling has improved a lot, the ride is supple and cosseting, and the steering is decently sharp. It has a good chassis and feels well planted on the road. There are some fine engines, which include some impressive diesels. They don’t cost an awful lot to keep on the road so they’re good value for money.
