Volvo S40 (96 - 04)

They put a lot of effort into improving this over the years. In particular they really upgraded equipment levels, making for a fine, comfortable cabin. It may be a small Volvo but it has the big attributes of the marque with a serious spread of safety equipment. The seats are really comfortable. You’ll be hard pressed to find that much quality in a car of that age for a better price. There is plenty of space inside, and a good size boot. On the road the S40 is rock solid with a nice touch to the steering. There is an excellent driving position and there is good visibility throughout.
